We all know that a clean and inviting office can make it easier for you to concentrate and produce a level of work which is befitting of your potential. And a recent study in the U.S. concludes that it’s not just productivity that having a clean and tidy office can affect.
The study was carried out by Kimberley Clark and found that office desks, keyboards, kitchen areas and break rooms were places which put workers health at serious risk. Some areas were found to be extremely unhygienic, especially those places where the workers washed their cutlery and plates and the handles on refrigerator doors.
Nearly 5,000 swabs from random offices were taken, which when analysed found that it was normal for employees to pass bugs and germs around without even knowing.
Richard Millard from Kimberley Clark was quoted in the Daily Express as saying that
“No one can avoid it entirely”
. He also said that rates of employee illness could fall by 80% if hygiene habits were improved.
Charles Gerba from the University of Arizona was a consultant on the study, he said:
“This demonstrates that contamination can be spread throughout the workplace when office workers heat up lunch, make coffee or simply type on their keyboards,”
The best way to keep on top of the office cleaning is to hire a professional office cleaning company who can keep your office and rest room areas in tip-top shape.
