A new survey has revealed that if mums charged for their services to family life over the Christmas period they would earn over £2,500.
The survey, which was carried out by Debenhams Personal Finance took jobs into consideration such as being the family chef, a chauffeur, a personal shopper, a housekeeper and a cleaner.
The study found that families rely on mums more than they realise, with most of the work mums do over the festive period going unseen. Everything from present buying, preparing the turkey and even the tree decorating – it’s still mums who do the majority of the work.
In terms of the cleaning that mums do over Christmas, looking after more people puts a strain on an already tight schedule. The survey estimates that over Christmas mums will spend an astonishing 14 hours cleaning, which is time which could otherwise be spent enjoying time off work with family and friends. And with laundry and housekeeping estimated to be another 11 hours, that’s an astounding total of 25 hours spent cleaning and tidying.
One of the best ways to solve the festive chaos is to hire a cleaner throughout the Christmas period. They will be able to do all those jobs you would otherwise have to do yourself so you can enjoy the spare time you have.
